Newsletter with Mailchimp and Brevo

Add buyers from checkout to the list in your newsletter tool automatically, with a checkbox and confirmation email or as existing customers with an opt-out.

Connect your Mailchimp or Brevo account and checkout asks your buyers about the newsletter. Everyone who agrees lands on your list by themselves, without exporting or importing anything. You decide whether buyers tick a box themselves or whether you add them as existing customers unless they opt out.

Connect your account

Open Integrations and click Mailchimp or Brevo under Newsletter. Owners, admins and the Marketing role can do this.

  1. Click Sign in with Mailchimp, sign in there and allow access. You come back here by yourself afterwards.
  2. Or click Connect with an API key and paste an API key from your account. The text below the field says where to find it.

You can use one newsletter tool at a time. To switch, disconnect the connected one first.

Set up the list and checkout

After connecting, you'll see the card Add buyers.

  1. Choose the list your buyers should go to. Mailchimp calls it an audience.
  2. Choose how checkout asks (see below). Below the choice you can see how it looks at checkout.
  3. Switch on Add buyers to the newsletter. From now on, checkout in your shop asks.

Every change applies right away. If you switch it off again, checkout no longer asks, and anyone already on your list stays there.

How does checkout ask?

SettingWhat the buyer seesWhen they're added
With a checkboxAn empty checkbox: Yes, I'd like to get emails from Kulturhaus am Fluss about upcoming events and offers. You can unsubscribe at any time using the link in every email. After the purchase they get an email to confirm. We only add them after they click.
Automatically, with opt-outA notice and the checkbox I don't want to receive these emails.Right after the paid purchase, unless they tick the box.

With a checkbox works in every country. We send the confirmation email in the buyer's language and in the name of your shop, from your own sender address if you have one. That way you can show later that the person really agreed.

Automatically, with opt-out uses the rule for existing customers: anyone who buys from you may receive marketing for your own similar offers as long as they don't object. Before you switch it on, you confirm these rules:

  • You only write about your own events and tickets, no ads for partners or sponsors.
  • Every email says why the person gets it and has an unsubscribe link.
  • Anyone who unsubscribes or opts out at checkout gets no more marketing. They aren't added again with later purchases either.
  • Write to buyers for at most 24 months after their last purchase, 12 in Ireland.

For free orders, checkout always asks with a checkbox, because the rule only applies to a purchase. Some countries don't have the rule at all, for example Poland. There you can only choose With a checkbox.

What we send

We send the email address, first and last name and, for Mailchimp, the buyer's language. For Mailchimp we add tags: TickySmart, Consent or Existing customer, and the event name. That lets you write to everyone who bought for a specific event later.

We never send ticket holders, guests from the guest list or gift recipients, only the person who ordered. Anyone who unsubscribed in your newsletter tool stays unsubscribed, even if they buy again.

Log

Under Log you can see the latest sign-ups from checkout and what happened to them.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need to set anything up in Mailchimp or Brevo?

Only a list. We send the confirmation email ourselves, so you don't need a template in your newsletter tool.

What happens if my access stops working?

If you removed access in your newsletter tool or deleted the key, a notice appears at the top of the page. Connect your account again, your list and settings stay.

Can I connect other newsletter tools?

With a webhook for paid orders and tools like Zapier, Make or n8n, you can reach almost any newsletter tool. More under Integrations overview.
